Brigadier Gininda Biography
Brigadier Bongani Gininda is a respected South African police officer with over three decades of experience in criminal investigations. He is currently the head of the National Cold Case Unit, a specialized unit within the South African Police Service (SAPS) tasked with investigating long-standing unsolved cases.
Gininda joined the SAPS in 1993 and underwent basic policing training, followed by a range of specialized training courses, including internal security, special weapons and explosives, computer literacy, vehicle-related crimes, investigations of case dockets and inquiry dockets, and crime management.
Throughout his career, Gininda has held several key positions within the SAPS, including the Gauteng Provincial Detectives and the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks). In 2017, he was transferred to the National Commissioner under the pilot project of the National Cold Case Unit, where he gained valuable experience in handling complex and challenging cases.
In 2021, Gininda was permanently appointed head of the National Cold Case Unit, a position he holds to this day. Under his leadership, the unit has made significant progress in solving some of South Africa’s most notorious cold cases, including the murder of soccer star Senzo Meyiwa.
Gininda is highly regarded for his commitment to justice, his meticulous work ethic, and his ability to build strong relationships with both colleagues and the community. He is dedicated to using his expertise to bring closure to families affected by unsolved crimes and to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
